Challenge Accepted: Pioneering Solutions for Tomorrow at HackSavvy-24

Sustainable Infrastructure

Sustainable Infrastructure

SI-PS-1: Renewable Energy Integration

Developing a working model to illustrate how to integrate renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, or hydro into existing infrastructure to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and lower carbon emissions.

Smart Cities

SI-PS-2: Innovative Design of Road Intersection

The task involves the geometric design of a 4-legged intersection with provided data. It is required to arrive at the most optimal signal settings based on the time-sharing concept of design.

Urban Infrastructure

SI-PS-3: Development of Accident Heat Maps Using Arc GIS

Accident data pertaining to a stretch will be provided, and the task involves identification of accident-prone locations and development of accident heat maps using Arc GIS software.

Accident Management

SI-PS-4: Highway Pavement Design Challenge

The task involves the optimization of the thickness of flexible pavements based on traffic and soil parameters. Verification of stresses and strains needs to be carried out using KENLAYER software.

Rural Infrastructure

SI-PS-5: Development of Small-Scale Wind Energy Device

Urban landscape and the physical challenges
restrict the erection of small-scale wind turbines. Large-scale turbines fared well compared to small- scale wind turbine
models. Other general challenges are as under:
(1) Highly controlled energy sector
(2) lack of awareness and information
(3) restricted access to technology
(4) lack of competition
(5) high transaction costs
(6) poor market infrastructure
(7) High investment requirements
Expected Output: Eco-friendly energy alternative, Unlike energy produced by fossil fuels while wind energy is completely clean and eco- friendly. Not only is wind power free to harness, but its also 100% renewable

SI-PS-6: Real-Time Vehicle Tracking System

The objective is to create a smart transportation system designed to enhance the efficiency and convenience of public transit in Himachal Pradesh by providing users with real-time bus availability and scheduling information. Leveraging GPS and other advanced technologies, the system aims to deliver accurate and reliable data, allowing users to track their desired bus in real time and receive estimated arrival times at specific bus stops. Additionally, it will integrate sustainability indicators, such as emission compliance (e.g., Bharat Stage IV) and the use of clean fuels (CNG or electricity), to promote environmental awareness. This comprehensive approach promises to significantly improve the public transportation experience, making it more efficient, reliable, and eco-friendly.

Transportation

SI-PS-7: Novel Technologies for Early Detection and Mitigation of Avalanches

Avalanches, characterized by the rapid descent of snow, rocks, and boulders down mountainous terrains, pose significant risks to both human lives and property. The essence of effectively managing this natural hazard lies in the ability to predict its occurrence and implement timely preventative measures. We seek innovative solutions that can revolutionize the early detection and mitigation of snow avalanches in areas most susceptible to these events. Proposals should focus on leveraging cutting-edge technologies or novel methodologies to accurately forecast avalanches and initiate preemptive actions, thereby safeguarding vulnerable communities and preserving natural habitats. Your contribution can lead to a paradigm shift in how we anticipate and respond to the threats posed by avalanches, ultimately saving lives and minimizing property damage in mountainous regions.

Disaster Management

SI-PS-8: Effective Management of Construction and Demolition (C&D) Waste

The escalating volume of construction and demolition (C&D) waste, propelled by rapid urbanization and infrastructure growth, presents a critical environmental challenge in urban areas. Current disposal practices have led to significant environmental degradation, resource depletion, and public health concerns. This necessitates a paradigm shift towards a holistic and sustainable C&D waste management strategy. The objective is to develop an innovative solution that reduces waste generation, promotes the recycling and reuse of materials, and ensures the proper disposal of residual waste. A key component of this solution is the integration of advanced hardware and intelligent monitoring systems. These technologies will facilitate efficient waste tracking, sorting, and processing, ultimately contributing to sustainable urban development by minimizing the ecological footprint, conserving valuable resources, and enhancing community health and well-being.

Clean & Green Technology

SI-PS-9: Structural Optimization

Developing a novel building design using STAAD.Pro Software for innovative structural design.

Innovative Structural Design

SI-PS-10: Open Call for Sustainable Infrastructure Challenges

Identify pressing challenges within sustainable infrastructure in your community or globally, and propose innovative solutions that can lead to sustainable development and environmental stewardship. Solutions can range from renewable energy integration, smart urban planning, to green building designs and more.
