From a small room in the neighboring CBIT to the spacious and lavish 577 Sq.mts.
In the first floor of B-Block in MGIT, the Library & Information Center has grown by leaps and bounds. The original 400 titles and 1000 volumes have now grown to 53,852 volumes and 12,734 titles – an addition of 2500 volumes per year. It is now managed by seven technical and three non-technical members.
The college Library & Information Center now subscribes 658 e-journals with two packages (IEEE, ASPP & Springer 3 Subject Collection) and 176 Indian technical journals and 25 general magazines for the benefit of the students and staff. The ambience and the fully automated system is student friendly and provide the students internet facilities. The Library & information Center is open beyond college hours.
In the very first year students can borrow six books and two CDs each and can borrow additional books in the third year, faculty members are eligible to borrow eight books and two CDs apart from two books that can be borrowed by staff pursuing their higher studies.
This Library & Information Center buzzes with activity with an average of 450 students and staff visiting it everyday apart from visitors using the internet beyond college hours.
The transactions in the Library & Information Center are computerized with the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) facility that offers transparency about the status of books to both the staff and the students who can access the details from their respective departments.
The Library & Information Center maintains record of all the final year project work, which is of great help to the students. The reprographic facility that helps the students get a copy of information needed is an added advantage.
Major publishers like Oxford Press, Cambridge university Press, PHI, Prentice Hall, New Age, Asian, Higginbotham’s, etc. have all helped books exhibitions inculcation the love for books among students. The saga of its journey is never ending and is anxiously looking forward to house itself in an exclusive block all for itself.
