MGIT Faculty Collaborates with DRDL Scientists to Explore Research Opportunities in Defense and Space

29^th Feb 2024, the Director RDC,  Dr. M.P. Phaniraj, Dr. Y. Pardhu (Asst. Prof. P@C Dept.) and Mr. Srinivasulu Reddy (Asst. Prof., Mech. Dept). met with scientists in Defense Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL) to discuss avenues for research.

Dr. S. Seetharaman (Sc. G, Adv. Sys. Lab.)

Dr Seetharaman enquired about the background & areas of expertise of the faculty and then went on to present the application of various composites in Defense and Space. He was pro-active about areas in which the faculty can work and pointed the procedure for doing work that stood a chance of getting funded. The faculty saw the labs & equipment’s that were in the composites group. Dr. Phaniraj requested him to give a presentation on composites in Defense & Aerospace, at MGIT. Dr Seetharaman was positive about giving the presentation at a convenient time.

Dr. P. Mastaniah (Group Head, Welding Division.)

Dr Mastanaiah knew about MGIT and about the expertise of faculty who shared the  administrative responsibility with him, when he was Secretary, at The Indian Institute of Welding, Hyderabad. The faculty discussed with him the specifics of going about a project with DRDL, for instance the Contract for Acquisition of Research Services project. He was kind enough to describe with an example on a welding research project. He pointed out that such a proposal will require meetings among faculty and relevant DRDL scientists. The proposal will be product oriented rather than blue skies research.
