About the Programme
The NEP SAARTHI Cell of Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Technology organised a programme on “Linguistic Diversity: Exploring India’s Languages through Literature, Poetry Recitation & Debate” on 31 March 2026.
The programme was conducted in accordance with instructions received from UGC–NEP SAARTHI, New Delhi, with the objective of promoting awareness and appreciation of India’s rich linguistic and literary heritage. Students and faculty members from different departments participated in the programme.
The event provided a platform for participants to explore Indian languages through literary presentations, multilingual poetry recitations, thematic discussions and debate. It encouraged students to understand the cultural significance of different languages and recognise their contribution to India’s identity and heritage.
The programme poster highlighted four principal activities:

- Thematic presentations and debates
- Literary and cultural exploration
- Celebration of India’s linguistic heritage
Programme Highlights
The programme included literary and cultural presentations focusing on India’s diverse languages and traditions. Students participated in recitations, presentations and discussions that demonstrated the importance of preserving regional languages and literary works.
The photographs on pages 2, 4, 5, 6 and 8 show faculty members and students participating in presentations and interactive sessions. The displays shown on pages 3 and 7 feature poems, literary material and images of prominent Indian poets and writers, supporting the event’s focus on Indian literature and linguistic heritage.
Objectives of the Programme
- To create awareness about India’s linguistic diversity.
- To promote appreciation of regional languages and literature.
- To encourage students to participate in poetry recitation and debate.
- To explore the relationship between language, literature and culture.
- To improve students’ communication and presentation skills.
- To celebrate India’s multilingual identity and literary heritage.
Outcomes of the Programme
The programme enabled students to gain a better understanding of India’s linguistic and cultural diversity. Participants explored literary works from different languages and recognised the role of poetry, literature and public discussion in preserving cultural heritage.
The activity also helped students improve their communication, public-speaking, presentation and critical-thinking abilities. It encouraged interaction among students from different linguistic backgrounds and promoted respect for India’s multilingual traditions.
