CSE and MME students gain exposure to advanced defence laboratories and manufacturing technologies; Dr. N. Eswara Prasad shares experiences from his years at DRDL

Hyderabad, 5th November 2026: A team of 40 third-year students from the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering (MME) departments of Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Technology (MGIT), Hyderabad, accompanied by four faculty members, visited the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL).

During the visit, students explored various advanced laboratories and witnessed the state-of-the-art technologies and facilities used by Indian defence scientists. They gained valuable insights into the contributions of Indian scientists towards strengthening the nation’s defence capabilities, safeguarding national security, and promoting defence exports.

Students learned about advanced manufacturing technologies, including advanced CNC machines, 3D printing machines, and water jet cutting machines, and their applications in defence research, design, and manufacturing.

The visit highlighted the Government of India’s commitment to strengthening indigenous defence research and development by providing world-class infrastructure and facilities to defence laboratories, thereby promoting self-reliance in defence technology.

Prof. G. Chandramohan Reddy, Principal, MGIT, appreciated the initiative and encouraged students to actively participate in industrial visits, internships, and industry-oriented learning activities to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical applications.

Prof. T. V. Rajinikanth, Head of the Department of CSE, coordinated the visit and accompanied students from both the CSE and MME departments, facilitating their exposure to advanced engineering and manufacturing technologies.

Dr. N. Eswara Prasad, Director – Research and Development, MGIT, showed the students the Kalam Residences and shared memorable experiences and recollections from his professional journey at DRDL.

The visit provided an excellent learning experience and motivated students to pursue innovation, research, and careers in advanced engineering and defence technologies, contributing to the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
