Five-Day FutureSkills Prime 2.0 Bootcamp on Internet of Things (IoT)

21 Sep 2026 - 26 Sep 2026 | Organized by: Department of Information Technology | Department of Emerging Technologies Website  | Registration Form  | Brochure

The Departments of Emerging Technologies and Information Technology, MGIT jointly conducted a five-day FutureSkills Prime 2.0 Bootcamp on the Internet of Things (IoT) from 21 to 25 September 2026, in collaboration with NIELIT Calicut, Kerala and in association with NIELIT Hyderabad.

FutureSkills Prime is a digital skilling initiative of NASSCOM and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, which builds industry-recognised competence across ten emerging technologies. NIELIT is an autonomous scientific society under MeitY and a premier national body for electronics and IT skilling; NIELIT Calicut, a national resource centre for embedded systems, designed the curriculum and the hardware kits used in the programme.

About the Programme

The bootcamp was built around hands-on learning, with approximately 70% of the content delivered through demonstrations and laboratory exercises. Participants worked on NIELIT IoT Development Kits, ESP32 boards and Raspberry Pi Pico W kits, progressing from sensors and actuators through connectivity and MQTT messaging to cloud dashboards, MicroPython programming in Thonny, and mobile application integration. Every participant was issued development kits for the duration of the training and built working sensor-to-cloud applications.

Objectives

  • To build a working understanding of IoT architecture, from the sensing layer through connectivity to the cloud.
  • To give every participant direct, hands-on time with industry-standard IoT hardware.
  • To teach embedded device programming using MicroPython on microcontroller platforms.
  • To demonstrate machine-to-machine communication using the MQTT publish–subscribe protocol.
  • To connect edge devices to cloud platforms and visualise live sensor data.
  • To prepare participants to design and prototype end-to-end IoT applications.

Programme Schedule

Day Date Sessions
Day 1 21 Sep Inauguration · Introduction to IoT and platform overview · IoT hardware platforms
Day 2 22 Sep Sensors and actuators · Connectivity solutions · Practicals with the NIELIT IoT Development Kit
Day 3 23 Sep IoT layered architecture and protocols · MQTT practicals · IoT cloud fundamentals and applications
Day 4 24 Sep MicroPython fundamentals · NIELIT Pico kits and Thonny · Integrated practical session
Day 5 25 Sep Mobile application development for IoT · Evaluation · Feedback and valediction

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the bootcamp, participants are able to:

  • Explain the IoT ecosystem, layered architecture and commonly used platforms.
  • Interface sensors and actuators with microcontroller platforms and acquire reliable data.
  • Select an appropriate connectivity technology and communication protocol for a given IoT use case.
  • Implement machine-to-machine communication using the MQTT publish–subscribe protocol.
  • Integrate edge devices with cloud IoT platforms and visualise live sensor data on a dashboard.
  • Develop embedded IoT applications in MicroPython on ESP32 and Raspberry Pi Pico W platforms.
  • Prototype an end-to-end IoT solution, including integration with a mobile application.
