Students, faculty and staff come together to honour Telangana’s floral festival and its rich cultural heritage

Gandipet, Hyderabad | October 14, 2026

Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Technology (MGIT), Gandipet, celebrated Bathukamma, Telangana’s iconic floral festival, with great enthusiasm and traditional fervour on October 14, 2026. The event brought students, faculty and staff together to honour one of the state’s most cherished cultural traditions.

The campus was filled with festive colour as participants arranged beautifully stacked Bathukammas using seasonal flowers such as tangedu, gunugu, banti and chamanthi. Dressed in traditional attire, women faculty and students gathered around the Bathukammas, singing folk songs and performing the customary circular dance, which celebrates life, nature and womanhood.

Bathukamma is celebrated across Telangana as a tribute to Goddess Gauri and is a symbol of the region’s deep bond with nature and community. The celebrations at MGIT reflected this spirit of unity and togetherness, offering students a meaningful connection to their cultural roots alongside their academic and professional pursuits.

The celebrations concluded with festive greetings, leaving the MGIT family with joyful memories of a colourful and culturally rich occasion.
