News Date : 03 Nov 2026     News Report

Third-year IT students, in association with the ACM Student Chapter, explore remote sensing, Earth observation, and the role of AI and data analytics in satellite applications

Hyderabad, 3rd November 2026: Third-year Information Technology (IT) students of Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Technology (MGIT), Hyderabad, in association with the ACM Student Chapter, visited the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Jeedimetla, Hyderabad, as part of an educational and industrial exposure programme aimed at bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world technological applications.

The student delegation was led by Prof. Dr. A. Nagesh and Asst. Prof. B. Swetha, Department of Information Technology, MGIT.

The visit gave students first-hand exposure to India’s space technology initiatives and the role of satellite-based systems in addressing societal and technological challenges. Students were introduced to the fundamentals and practical applications of remote sensing, satellite communication, Earth observation, meteorological data systems, and satellite imagery.

Students learned how data acquired through satellites is processed, analysed, and used for applications such as weather forecasting, agricultural monitoring, natural resource management, environmental monitoring, disaster management, urban planning, and geographical information systems (GIS).

They also gained insights into the importance of data analytics, image processing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and information technology in analysing large volumes of satellite data and developing intelligent solutions for real-world problems.

The visit highlighted the growing interdisciplinary relationship between Information Technology and space science, demonstrating how emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Big Data Analytics, and Geospatial Technologies are driving advancements in satellite-based applications. The Department of IT and the ACM Student Chapter thanked NRSC for hosting the students.
