MGIT Students Win Second Place in Health Tech at HACKX 2026 with EEG-Powered “Mindwave”

A team of students from Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Technology (MGIT) has won Second Place in the Health Tech category at HACKX 2026, a 35-hour hackathon organised by Muffakham Jah College of Engineering and Technology (MJCET). The event was held at SU Knowledge Hub, Hyderabad, on 13–14 October 2026.

The team presented Mindwave, a project that combines EEG-based emotion detection with personalised music recommendations. Mindwave reads a user’s brain signals to recognise their emotional state and responds with music matched to that state. Along with other features, the project aims to support emotional well-being through technology.

HACKX 2026 drew nearly 400 teams. After a rigorous initial screening, only 80 teams were shortlisted for the main event, with equal representation across all domains. The MGIT team competed in the combined hardware and software category and finished second in the Health Tech domain.

The team said the experience let them show their technical skills, creativity, teamwork and problem-solving on a competitive platform. They added that they were proud to represent MGIT and bring recognition to the institution.

The management, Principal, Heads of Departments, faculty and staff of MGIT congratulated the team on the achievement.
